So I finally got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and after using it for a bit, here’s what I really think. No fluff, just real talk.
Launch and Availability
Samsung announced it on February 25, 2026 at Galaxy Unpacked. Pre-orders started the same week, and it went on sale globally around March 11. Most people got it on time, though some regions had to wait a week or two. Nothing unusual.
Design and Build
It looks premium, no doubt. Metal frame, glass back, and this time the display is almost flat — thank God. No more accidental touches on the edges. The camera bump is also less annoying now. Feels solid in hand, but yeah, it’s heavy. You’ll notice it in your pocket.
Colors are nice — I like the Deep Green one. Burgundy Red looks good too but a bit flashy for me.
Display
Typical Samsung — best in class. The screen is huge (6.9 inches), super smooth (144Hz), and gets crazy bright. Like, you can use it under direct sun without squinting. Watching Netflix or scrolling Instagram feels great. No complaints here.
Performance
It’s fast. Really fast. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (the special Samsung edition) handles everything like a champ. I played heavy games, switched between 15 apps, no lag. The phone gets a little warm after long gaming sessions but nothing crazy.
One thing though — no microSD slot. So choose your storage wisely. 256GB might fill up fast if you shoot a lot of videos.
Camera
Okay, so the camera is good, but don’t believe all the hype. The 200MP main sensor takes sharp photos, especially in daylight. Night mode is better than last year — less noise, more detail.
The zoom is still the main attraction. 5x optical is great, 30x is usable, but 150x is just a party trick. You’ll never use it seriously. Selfie camera is fine for video calls and occasional photos.
If you’re expecting a massive jump from S25 Ultra, you might be disappointed. It’s more of a refinement than a revolution.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is solid. 5,500 mAh easily gets me through a full day. With normal use (calls, WhatsApp, YouTube, some gaming), I’m at 20-30% by bedtime.
Charging is 65W now — finally faster than before. It goes from 0 to 100 in about 45 minutes. Still not as crazy as some Chinese phones (100W+), but honestly, it’s enough for most people.
No charger in the box though. Annoying, but you probably already have one.
Software and S Pen
Runs One UI 7 on Android 16. Clean, smooth, not too many useless apps. Samsung promises 7 years of updates, so you’re set till 2033 if you keep the phone that long.
S Pen is still here (yes, included). Works great, low lag. I use it for signing docs and editing photos sometimes. Not a dealbreaker for everyone, but nice to have.
What I Don’t Like
Let’s be real:
-
Heavy — 234g is noticeable. Your pinky finger will feel it.
-
No expandable storage — come on Samsung, why?
-
Charging could be faster — 65W is good but not great in 2026.
-
Camera zoom beyond 30x is gimmicky
-
Expensive — starts at $1,299. That’s a lot of money.
Final Thoughts
Look, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is a fantastic phone. Probably the best Android flagship of 2026. But do you need it? If you have an S24 Ultra or newer, not really. If you’re coming from an S22 Ultra or older — yes, you’ll love the upgrade.
It’s powerful, has a beautiful screen, great battery, and a very good camera (not perfect, but very good). Just be ready for the weight and the price tag.
